Goodyear: Extra strong trailer tires for higher axle weight in Austria

The international tire manufacturer Goodyear is introducing a high-load version of its FUELMAX T trailer tire with A label for fuel consumption in Austria. FUELMAX T HL, the new fuel-saving tire has the size 385/65 R 22,5 and allows an axle weight of up to ten tonnes.

Also Goodyear’s KMAX T with optimised mileage performance is available for hauliers in Austria in a high-load version, also in the size 385/65 R 22.5. While the FUELMAX series is mainly used in long-distance transport, the KMAX series is ideal for regional transport and distribution.

The reinforced carcass of the trailer tires make the FuelMax T HL and T KMAX HL particularly injury-resistant and ensure even wear of the profile. So the mileage of the tires can be fully exploited.

For special application, such as the transport of food, the extra strong tyres allow to transport almost as much cargo on a two-axle vehicle as normally on a three-axle trailer. [1] Those who drive international transportation, can carry more cargo with the Goodyear high-load tires. The total weight for articulated vehicles with five axles has been increased in many European countries from 40 tonnes to 44 tonnes or more.

The high-load tires from the FUELMAX- and KMAX series have been awarded the load index 164 (5 tonnes per tire, 10 tonnes per axle). By comparison, the trailer tires without the “High-Load” specification were given the index 160, which corresponds to 4.5 tonnes carrying capacity per tire and 9 tonnes per axle.

[1] According to an example calculation of the Goodyear Innovation Center in Luxembourg, the payload loss when switching from a three-axis to a two-axle trailer is 1.6 tonnes.
