120 year anniversary of Fr. Meyer’s Sohn, Hamburg

Founded on 15 September 1897 as a one-man company in Brandswiete, Hamburg, Fr. Meyer’s Sohn (FMS) has developed into one of the ten leading sea freight forwarders worldwide and a global logistics provider with more than 50 locations and 725 employees. Nevertheless the two initial letters “Fr.” in the company name puzzle up until today. This abbreviation is for Friedrich, the father of the company founder.

Because of their market leadership in paper logistics, FMS became a global player with annual revenues of around EUR 750 million. Heavy and sensitive goods have been part of the core business since the beginning, the range of branches gradually being extended to include steel, agricultural products and consumer products.

This went hand in hand with the expansion of the service range – from airfreight services to the introduction of ISO containers and special loading tools for the paper industry. In order to cover customer needs during the process of digitization, a separate platform for the implementation and optimisation of individual supply chains was introduced in 2015.

Customer orientation, simplicity and the perfect handling of goods and supply chain processes have always been at the forefront. For example, Fr. Meyer’s Sohn supports the shipping industry in increasing the value and efficiency of their supply chains, increasing service levels, and shortening run times.

“We have invested steadily into sustained company growth and our success proves we are right. In the 120th year of our existence, we are very well positioned on an international scale, and continue to rely on highly qualified and motivated employees as well as innovative technologies based on customer requirements,” says FMS Managing Director Marc Meier.
