13 ambulances from Austria to set sail

Dlouhy ambulances receive their final touch at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai’s packing and service centre before being shipped to China

Thirteen ambulances have arrived from Austria at the Burchardkai packing and service centre, from where they will be shipped via Hamburg to China. They have been fitted with special equipment for the Chinese market by the Austrian firm, Dlouhy Fahrzeugbau.

The ambulances are being prepared for shipment to the Chinese port city of Dalian at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai’s packing and service centre. They will be packed seaworthy on flat racks. These stackable frames enable them to travel on board a container ship. This type of transport is an alternative to RoRo vessels, many of which do not call at ports that are designed to receive containers.

The loaded flat racks will then be brought from Burchardkai to the neighbouring terminal at Tollerort. Once there, a container gantry crane will load them on board the COSCO Italy at the beginning of February.

After a journey of more than 4,224 nautical miles, the vehicles should then be deployed in the Chinese province of Liaoning.
