19 European transport companies signed up on Responsible Care

Responsible Care Programme for European chemical land transport presented

On Tuesday 17th, 19 chemical transport companies officially declared their participation in Responsible Care at the annual conference of the European Chemical Transport Association, ECTA, in Barcelona, Spain. CEOs of all 19 ECTA member companies signed a declaration of commitment as well as a Responsible Care implementation agreement.

As the highlight of ECTA’s annual conference Rose-Marie Pype, ECTA Logistics Manager, presented the Responsible Care programme and implementation guide developed by ECTA specifically for the chemical land transport sector.

By signing up on ECTA’s Responsible Care programme, ECTA member companies commit themselves to implement ECTA’s Responsible Care principles into their strategy, management systems and daily operations. ECTA is the first chemical transport association to launch a European-wide Responsible Care programme based on a partnership agreement with the European Chemical Industry Council, Cefic, signed in October 2008.

ECTA was initially set up by the European Petrochemical Association, EPCA, as a platform where both industry and logistics service providers could meet and work together. However over the last ten years ECTA has evolved into a proper association of companies in the chemical transport sector, recognized by EU authorities and many other stakeholders. ECTA has initiated a number of working groups with EPCA and Cefic to identify and develop productivity improvements. These working groups developed a series of best practices guidelines for the transport and logistics of chemical goods in Europe.
