230 more City Link redundancies as depots start to close

City Link’s administrators are to make a further 230 people redundant between now and 15th January as depot operations close.

A total of 51 City Link Limited depots will be permanently closed by 15th January 2015, although a small number of back office employees will be retained at some of these sites.

There are still about 20,000 parcels in the network, and  as the depots close these will be moved to the Coventry hub where they can be collected by customers or returned through an alternative parcel carrier.

141 people in total will be retained at City Link Limited’s Coventry head office and transport hub, as well as across a number of other sites, to continue to assist the Joint Administrators in realising the Company’s assets and winding down its operations, as well as returning parcels to customers.

Joint administrator Hunter Kelly of EY said: “It is with regret that we announce further redundancies at City Link Limited, which will take effect over the coming days as the Company’s remaining UK depot operations close. Having returned a large volume of parcels to City Link Limited’s customers and recipients over recent days, it is no longer viable to continue operating these depots and a phased plan to close them has begun.”
