VW starts large-scale investment in Emden

 
Volkswagen constructs second railway loading station at Port of Emden

These days in the seaport of Emden construction works aiming to enhance rail traffic started. With investments amounting to EUR 9 million, Volkswagen Logistics erects a second loading platform for loading and unloading new cars to rail wagons. Starting operation in April 2009, the facility is the basis for an efficient handling of railway transportations. The new building doubles the capacity for automotive manipulation between train and vessel at the Port of Emden.

In its recent history the Port of Emden evolved into a logistics hub for the automotive industry. In the year 2007 the harbour handled more than 1 million vehicles for the first time. The rail cargo volume amounted to about 60,000 rail wagons.
