GW: ‘Sonorous’ special transport for Grassmayr

Gebrüder Weiss organised the transport of a 15.5 tons bell made by Grassmayr from Tyrol to Trieste

Gebrüder Weiss announces the successful handling of an extraordinary special transport. The provider of transport and logistics services transported a 15.5 tons bell of the Tyrolean bell foundry Grassmayr, including corresponding heavy components, from Innsbruck to Trieste in the beginning of July. From there, the transport continues to Israel via sea freight. The bell, measuring almost 3 metres in diameter and so far the biggest one of Tyrolean bell foundry Grassmayr is intended for the Greek Orthodox monastery on Mount Tabor in Israel.

The greatest challenges were the dimensions, the weight as well as the loading safety of the record-breaking bell. Already at collection with a low-loader at the bell foundry Grassmayr, a crane had to be used. Shortly after, the bell was loaded on an even bigger low-loader in the heavy cargo hall of Gebrüder Weiss in Hall, as the Grassmayr location simply could not provide enough space.

”For the handling of this gem, qualified employees were on-site to apply special chains and non-slip mats. This way we were able to ensure the transport safety”, explains Stefan Pürcher, Sea Freight Manager at Gebrüder Weiss. ”We are thoroughly satisfied with the transport process.” Furthermore, Gebrüder Weiss was responsible for the customs clearance procedure.
