Second de-icing salt warehouse for Port of Vienna

Wiener Hafen doubles warehousing capacities for de-icing salt for the coming winter season

The construction of a new warehouse for de-icing salt is to start shortly at the Port of Vienna. The new building shall have a capacity of 25,000 tons and be ready for use before the coming winter season. According to port manager Ing. Rudolf Mutz the investment totals around EUR 4.9 million.

The new hall complements the existing de-icing salt storage in the Port of Vienna, which offers a capacity of 20,000 tons. The pre-carriage is completely effected by rail. Wiener Hafen operates the de-icing salt storage of the city of Vienna.

As for rail infrastructure, the port has signed an agreement with ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, a 100-per cent-subsidiary of ÖBB-Holding AG on 4 May. The contract stipulates the enhanced operation of the tracks at the container terminal Hafen Wien Freudenau, where about 100 incoming and outgoing block trains are handled per week.
