AGGREKO POWERS DECK MATING OF P-56 PLATFORM

Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, has successfully completed a project to provide temporary power for the deck mating operation of the P-56 platform, constructed by a consortium of Keppel FELS and Technip.

Deck mating is a process whereby a separately built hull and deck are attached during the fabrication of an offshore platform. During the standard deck mating procedure, suction pumps must be activated to remove water from the columns on the platform hull, and a temporary supply of power is essential for this operation. For the P-56, Aggreko provided a total of 1.5 MW of power as well as fuel-management services. Due to the modular and easily transportable design of Aggreko’s equipment, it was possible to house the power package on a ferry next to the P-56, with the power distributed through a series of cable runs. This resulted in a safer working environment for the customer and left more space for working on the platform itself.

Aggreko has provided similar solutions to the oil and gas industry in the past, including the provision of temporary power for the deck mating of the P-51 for the same consortium in 2008. Diogenes Paoli Neto, Managing Director, Aggreko South America, believes that this previous experience proved vital in the award of this contract. “Our successful work on the P-51 project and our ability to exactly meet the needs of our customer gave them the confidence to use us again. Deck mating is one of the most delicate stages in platform assembly so I am pleased that our customer has highly commended us for our part in this project.”

Aggreko has been working with oil and gas companies in Brazil since the beginning of its operations in the country in 2003 and is highly experienced in providing power rental services to platforms, particularly commissioning load tests performed with load banks. "Our intention is to ensure that for each new contract, our solutions fit the needs of each customer perfectly," said Diogenes Paoli Neto.
