Amazon moves into new Shoreditch head office

Amazon has opened a 15 storey 600,000 sq ft head office at Shoreditch in east London.

The office will house Amazon’s London Development Centre. It will focus on research and development for Amazon’s global Prime Video service.

The building is a mixed-use development and includes half an acre of public piazza and events space alongside 20,000 sq ft reserved for shops, cafés and restaurants.

Amazon’s UK country manager Doug Gurr described London as “one of the world’s truly great cities and home to some of the most talented, creative people on the planet,” and Amazon is promising to create 5,000 new jobs in the UK to increase the number of permanent employees across the country to 24,000.
