American Airlines transports 12m lbs of asparagus

American Airlines has transported almost 12 million pounds of fresh asparagus around the globe in the first six months of 2018 from early season suppliers in Mexico and Peru via key US hubs.

A key market for asparagus is Asia, and this spring American Airlines provided Tokyo with multiple daily shipments. “The majority of what we move is green asparagus,” said American Airlines Cargo’s managing director of sales – western division Joe Goode. “And because they are all fresh spears, they do require careful specialised handling.”
