Antwerp brings together European shortsea shipping

Navigate Events has teamed up with the Belgian Shortsea Promotion Centre to bring together shipping companies and their customers in Antwerp 19-20 June for the Shortsea-Euro 2012 conference.

All too often shortsea shipping is seen as a complicated and difficult option for supply chain managers. Through case studies from companies as diverse as Imerys, FloraHolland, Boliden and Norvik Timber Industries, the conference discusses the role of shortsea in the supply chain and highlights best practice.

Conference chairman Clive Kessell of Norvik Shipping & Logistics said:
“Whether you are involved with the bulk sector and need to gain a broad overview of the movement of aggregates and industrial minerals around Europe; a shipper who wants to meet shortsea logistical partners; a shipping company in the unitised cargo business or a provider of services orequipment to European shipping companies or ports, attending Shortsea-Euro 2012 will connect you to the experts and decision makers.”

The event organisers say that the programme has been designed to be as wide ranging and thought provoking as possible and looks at the opportunities in Russia, developments in the offshore energy market, the likelihood of LNG becoming a credible alternative fuel for ships, how ports can be competence centres for integrated logistics as well as the freight market outlook for all the main trades.

The conference is the latest in a series of shortsea focused conferences run by Navigate Events. Previous conferences have attracted over 180 delegates and the organisers expect Antwerp to be their biggest gathering so far. The two day event takes place at the Antwerp Hilton hotel and also includes a dinner cruise and walking tour of Antwerp.
