APM invests US$1bn in Costa Rica’s Moin Container Terminal

APM Terminals has been awarded a 33-year concession for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the new Moin Container Terminal (TCM) in Costa Rica.

In the first phase and depending on technical studies, the access channel and turning‐basin will be dredged to 16 metres deep.

A new 1.5 km breakwater will be constructed and a 40 hectare the container yard will be created together with 600 metres of quay with two berths.

Additional works include the administration building and a twelve-lane gate.

Equipment in the first phase will include six post‐Panamax ship‐to‐shore gantry cranes, ECO-RTGs and other specialised equipment.

This first phase, with an estimated cost of US$543 million, will be completed in 2016.

The terminal will undergo phased expansion in accordance with provisions of the concession agreement.

On completion of the final phase, the terminal will have an area of 80 hectares, with 1,500 metres of quay, five berths, a 2.2 km breakwater and an access channel 18 metres deep.

APM Terminals‘ integrated global network includes 53 ports in 32 countries and 121 inland facilities in 48 countries.
