Austria is setting new a course for inland shipping

The government wants to make the business location of Austria even more attractive. For this purpose, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache, Minister of Economic Affairs Margarete Schramböck and Infrastructure Minister Norbert Hofer discussed investment projects and conditions in a high-level meeting with around 100 board members from international companies on 27 February in Vienna.

In their statements to the press, the members of the government emphasised the importance of Austria as an east-west hub, based on an excellent transport infrastructure. The country is an attractive location when it comes to logistics, emphasised Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache.

Within the next few years, EUR 13.9 billion will be invested in the rail expansion and the extension of the broad gauge railway to Vienna until the beginning of the 2030s, explained Transport Minister Norbert Hofer. This was followed by the announcement of continued measures to modernise the infrastructure for road transport.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport wants to set new trends for better navigability of the Danube. As a complement to the initiatives in Austria, supportive measures and a transfer of know-how to improve the navigation conditions for inland navigation in neighboring countries are planned, Norbert Hofer pointed out.
