Behala and Talke to launch “Rhein-Spree-Express”

Intermodal cooperation replaces 400 trucks per week

On May 25 the Alfred Talke GmbH & Co. KG and the port and warehousing operator Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH (Behala) will start an environmentally friendly cooperation project named “Rhein-Spree-Express“. The service offers intermodal transport solutions for containers and swap trailers between the economic regions in the Benelux, Eifel, Rhein-Ruhr and Berlin. The service is available on all weekdays between the terminals in Gerolstein (CTG), Hürth (Talke), Krefeld (KCT) and Berlin (Westhafen). Moreover barge-services are available from and to the ARA ports (ex Krefeld to Rotterdam and Antwerp). Thanks to the cooperation around 400 truck transportations per week can be shifted from road to rail.

One of the first users of the “Rhein-Spree-Express“ is the Logistic-Group Rothschild with its customer Gerolsteiner Brunnen. The duo is to shift goods distribution for Greater Berlin in eastbound direction and empty-returning within the returnable beverages system in the opposite direction to the rail. In addition to the economical advantages Gerolsteiner and Rothschild are appreciating the ecological aspect of the new product line.
