BLG invests EUR 20 million into new car parking deck

New parking deck and optimised rail infrastructure to improve the performance at the car terminal in Bremerhaven in 2015

BLG Logistics Group is to build a new multi-story parking deck at Bremerhaven Nordhafen in the next few months. The Supervisory Board has already approved the investment project amounting to around EUR 20 million.

Seven multi-story parking decks and a large covered parking area already exist at the car terminal. They offer space for a total of nearly 50,000 vehicles – and thus for substantially more than half of all parking spaces available. The new building project will provide parking capacity for an additional 6,000 cars on six levels.

Completion and commissioning of the parking deck are scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2015. Aside from providing protection for vehicles in the interest of premium clients, the parking decks increase parking capacity close to the water. As a result, the driving distances to the large car carriers are shortened and the productivity of the terminal is enhanced.

To be able to handle the growing volumes more effectively, work on the rail infrastructure at the car terminal will go forward at the same time. The first stage of the track extension in Bremerhaven Kaiserhafen will be completed in the 1st quarter of 2015. Then it will be possible to operate more auto trains and unload them faster.

For the year 2014 BLG Logistics Group anticipates a new cargo handling volume record of around 2.3 million vehicles both for import and export at the Bremerhaven Auto Terminal. The major German carmakers also indicate further growth in their overseas exports in the coming years.
