Block of the „Kaiserschleuse“ in Bremerhaven

Bremerhaven: Damage at the external head of the „Kaiserschleuse“ require the development and implementation of a repair concept

The „Kaiserschleuse“ in Bremerhaven is blocked for navigation until further notice. A team of divers of the bremenports company determined damages at the rails and their anchor during a routine check of the lock.

During the examination they found that there is a strong deformation over the entire length of the rails. Furthermore parts of the concrete are broken away from the rail anchorage at a length of about one meter.

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kaiserschleuse (Arge), which carried out the construction (technical lead: Hochtief AG) was asked by bremenports to remedy the warranted defect. Currently bremenports is having determined the exact extent of the damage and explained its cause. Together with Arge Kaiserschleuse a repair concept will be developed and implemented. It is already clear that the deformed rails need to be replaced.

The „Kaiserschleuse“ was blocked for navigation to avoid further damage. The ship traffic is routed via the northern lock. A passage through the „Kaiserschleuse“ is only possible in exceptional cases in the coming weeks (for example, offshore installation vessels).
