Buckerfield takes up Toll UK MD post

Toll Global Forwarding has appointed Steve Buckerfield as its UK Managing Director.

Buckerfield has spent 28 years in the freight industry. Starting as an export clerk at Emery Worldwide, he went on to work for American Airlines from 1990 until 2004, commencing as a cargo sales representative, and rising to the post of Managing Director, Sales – Europe. He then worked for freight forwarding and logistics providers Walker Freight (later C.H. Robinson) and, most recently, OHL – where he was Senior VP Sales for its EMEA region.

In his new post at TGF, he will assume responsibility for over 400 staff at 15 locations, collectively providing a comprehensive range of multi-modal forwarding and logistics solutions. The company’s UK operation is the largest in its EMEA region and, in addition to handling mainstream general freight, includes specialist divisions catering for defence, oil and gas, hanging garments and perishables.

Says Buckerfield: “Toll UK has recently completed the integration of the Genesis and WT businesses acquired in 2010. We now have a cohesive structure with impressive resources and capabilities, backed by an expanding global network. I am very excited to have been given this opportunity to consolidate Toll’s existing business, and take it forward to realise its full and considerable potential.”

Buckerfield reports to Toll’s MD EMEA, Hakan Bicil, who adds: “We welcome Steve to our team at this exciting time. His impressive freight industry experience and success to date make him well-qualified for the task of leading our major UK business, and leveraging our considerable investment in this important market.”

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Toll Global Forwarding has over 5000 employees and a worldwide network of more than 70 offices in 30 countries throughout Asia, Europe, North America, Africa, Australasia and the Middle East.
