Buckinghamshire mega shed site plans set for refusal

Plans for a 2.6 million sq ft warehouse site in Buckinghamshire are set to be refused by the local planning council next week.

Developer Hampton Brook is behind the proposal, which would have seen the development of a 140 acre scheme with the potential to create more than 2,000 jobs on land known as South Caldecotte – near the village of Bow Brickhill, close to Milton Keynes.

A number of recent local developments have been taken up quickly by companies re-locating: Amazon secured Gazeley’s 570,000 sq ft plus Altitude warehouse in August.

The application has been recommended for refusal ahead of a Milton Keynes Council planning meeting next week (6 February 2020).

Planning officers said the scheme should be refused permission because there was no infrastructure provision to mitigate the impact of the development. There was also a failure to demonstrate that the benefits of the development clearly outweighed the harm with the loss of not just the ecological landscape but also important non-designated heritage assets.

LM understands that Hampton Brook will reassess the proposals in the light of the recommendation and amend where necessary in order to secure permission in the future.
