Carlton Packaging gears-up to promote sustainable packaging with new DC

Carlton Packaging, a packaging provider to online retailers, has announced the signing of a new-build 172,000ft2 Bedfordshire distribution centre close to Bedford with excellent transport links throughout the UK.

“This is an exciting step forward for Carlton Packaging, and a vital development to ensure we continue to support online retailers throughout UK and Europe with smart products quickly from large stockholding,” commented Marcus Magee, Director.

Carlton Packaging designs and supplies smart sustainable packaging materials and processes for online retailers throughout the UK and Europe. With facilities in the UK, France, Germany and Italy, this brand-new facility will become group head office and national distribution centre.

The business is focussed on leading development and implementation of sustainable packaging processes and materials and ensuring all activities contribute towards its corporate sustainable goals. With BREEAM Excellent certification, this new site is a further step in Carlton Packaging’s journey to become carbon neutral, where installation of 200kW of solar PV has been commissioned to provide renewable energy for the site, with 12 EV charging points.

The new facility will be home to Carlton Packaging’s SmartHub packaging design and development centre. “We are making further significant investment in expanding our successful SmartHub facility within the new site with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to ensure we continue to provide our clients with the most effective solutions possible,” added Lucy Bosten, Marketing Manager. “We look forward to welcoming online retailers and fulfilment providers throughout the UK & Europe to this facility, to work with our in-house experts, developing sustainable packaging solutions to support their operations.”

For a number of years, Carlton Packaging has closely supported the online market growth with smart products and fast availability. “It’s all about the most effective product in the right place at the right time,” Magee continued. “We’re investing to stay ahead, to continue to support our clients’ growth with a reliable supply chain and unrivalled product availability even during the toughest of global supply conditions.” This growth will continue to bring job opportunities to the local area as the business looks to strengthen its workforce.
