Finished products store of Zumtobel Group migrates to JCL Logistics

JCL Logistics wins Zumtobel Group as new customer and constructs a Logistics Competence Center in Dornbirn Nord

The globally operating logistics company JCL Logistics won the international Zumtobel Group as a new customer and constructs the 70,000 m² Logistics Competence Center with rail connection in the Dornbirn Nord business park, Vorarlberg. In the frame of their cooperation the two enterprises will relocate the finished products store of the Zumtobel Group to the new building of JCL Logistics Austria GmbH in the first half of the year 2014.

The strategic redirection of the Zumtobel Group’s distribution logistics goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of the luminaire plant in Dornbirn. In the new Logistics Competence Center JCL Logistics will be providing services such as storage, pre- and on-carriage as well as value added services – also for new customers. Stephan Jöbstl, CEO JCL Logistics says „the Zumtobel Group is the initial spark for the construction of the Logistics Competence Center in Dornbirn, which will create and maintain jobs, and strengthen our position as a logistics company.“

The Zumtobel Group needs the additional storage capacity for further growth. Following the outsourcing of the finished products storage from the headquarters in Dornbirn, the external raw material and semi-finished products storage will fill this place. “Our top priority was to ensure that no jobs were lost in and around Dornbirn,” said Thomas Bischof, director of the Zumtobel plant in Dornbirn. “And with this local Dornbirn-based solution we have done just that. The finished products store at our factory site is already reaching its capacity. And the integration of the raw material and semi-finished products store into the plant will help optimise the production process. Overall, this move will create added flexibility for our operations in Dornbirn. Another positive aspect is that local residents will have 120 or so fewer truck trips to cope with each day.”

As one of the few global players of the lighting industry, the Zumtobel Group is investing EUR 20 million in a new production shop on the existing site, with start of production scheduled for the end of 2013. By adding 8,000 m² of production space and 1,600 m² of office space to the plant, the group is making a clear commitment to its home base in Dornbirn.
