Clearly positive trend at the Mierka Danube port Krems

Cargo throughput at Mierka Donauhafen Krems shows upwards trend in the first six months of 2010 again

The Danube port Mierka Donauhafen Krems is afloat again. From the beginning of January to the end of June 2010 Lower Austria’s biggest cargo handling area situated at the waterway has handled 480,000 tons of goods. Compared to the same period last year this is a 14 per cent-increase, as Managing Director Hubert Mierka informs the NÖ Wirtschaftspressedienst (Lower Austrian economy press service). “Our motor is not yet buzzing as in times of economic boom, but business runs way better than in 2009", Mierka states.

Divided according to transport means, in the first six month 160,000 tons were transported on vessels, 140,000 tons on trains and 180,000 tons on trucks. As for ship traffic Mierka Donauhafen Krems registered a 44 per cent-increase, and plus 26 per cent in rail volumes. Only truck throughput was down 10 per cent. Container business has grown by around 20 per cent. In the first half year 200 freight vessels called at Mierka Donauhafen Krems, one third more than in the same period of 2009.
