COSCO considers investing in Kaohsiung container terminal

COSCO has reportedly been in talks to acquire a 40% stake in a container terminal at the Taiwanese port of Kaohsiung.

The NT$19 billion ($632m) container terminal in Kaohsiung is being jointly developed by Yang Ming Marine and the Taiwan government.

According to a Dow Jones report, should the deal go ahead, it would be done by COSCO’s port investment arm, Cosco Pacific Ltd and Yang Ming Marine.

Should the planned investment receive approval from the Taiwan government, COSCO would be the first Chinese mainland company to invest in a Taiwanese port.
