Daikin Europe extends logistic partnership with Ceva

Ceva retained to manage key supply chain functions in Italy and new contract scope extended to Spain with Daikin Europe

Ceva Logistics, one of the world’s leading supply chain companies, has announced a three year contract worth more than EUR 30 million with Daikin Europe, the European arm of Japanese Daikin Industries Ltd., a leading global manufacturer and supplier of residential, commercial and industrial air conditioning systems, for activities in Italy and Spain.

In Italy, Ceva will continue to manage Daikin’s integrated logistics activities, as it has done for the past six years, including the storage and distribution of air conditioning units across the country. The renewed contract will also see an expansion of the operational solutions provided to Daikin, such as the ‘Touch & Go’ system which supports more responsive warehousing processes to help Daikin handle market fluctuations, especially during peak seasons. The ’Touch & Go’ system aims to provide real time visibility of the whole supply chain and anticipate order processing. This system will allow better management of inbound flows and prevents the unnecessary stocking of inventory when the final product destination is already known.

Ceva will handle Daikin’s goods in Italy using more than 20,000 sq.m. of space in the warehouse in Somaglia, in the province of Piacenza, a fleet of six Daikin branded vehicles and will handle over 6,000 items a year, equating to around 325,000 cubic meters. 32,200 cubic meters of goods will be distributed to other European countries and 125,000 cubic meters of air conditioning systems will be distributed in Italy every year, which is equivalent to the load capacity of 1,860 trucks, which if placed in a straight line would stretch for 22 km.

From January 2014, Ceva will also manage transportation for Daikin’s retail channel in Spain and distribute more than 90,000 items every year to their final consumers in Spain, as well as the Balearic Islands, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, Andorra and Gibraltar. Ceva’s experience in the home delivery market in Iberia was a critical factor in Daikin’s decision to award this business. The same advanced operational and technological solutions introduced in Italy to increase visibility will be also be implemented in Spain.

Ceva in Iberia has been providing services to Daikin for a number of years, including warehousing, the receipt and picking of product, return logistics, stock management or customer service activities, handling over 300,000 air conditioning systems and 40,000 spare parts per year.
