Damco manages Marks & Spencer’s China hub

Marks & Spencer has appointed Damco to manage its China hub, an operation that handles around five million items a year from vendors all over Southeast Asia for distribution to M&S international outlets.

Previously located in Hong Kong, the hub was moved to Mainland China to better support the growth of the retail business in China and to take advantage of cost and space efficiencies.

Diverting cargo away from the UK network and more directly through the international hubs is strongly in line with M&S‘ high-profile sustainability program.

In moving the hub, and awarding the business to Damco, productivity gains have already been identified and implemented, with record high shipments to stores in April.

Damco also has an Asia – UK supply chain management contract with Marks & Spencer.

In terms of a separate contract, Kerry Logistics was recently appointed to manage and operate M&S’s National Distribution Centre in Mainland China and its Regional Distribution Centre in Hong Kong.
