DB Schenker: More “road adherence“ in North America

DB Schenker is to put a greater focus on land transport in its distribution business within the US:

DB Schenker is reorganising its domestic distribution business in the US, in Canada and Mexico. This had been decided upon by the management board of the US company Schenker, Inc., who informed the management of DB Mobility Logistics AG about it. The weak economic growth in America and simultaneously rising fuel costs are the reasons for reorientation of this business, which had been bought with the acquisition of BAX Global in 2006.

DB Schenker’s domestic American distribution business covers an air freight network consisting of 20 aircraft and land transport with up to 2,000 departures per day. In future the land transport capacities in the market shall be stronger used than the aircraft fleet. “This decision affects about 700 employees, who are mainly part-time workers. As many as possible shall be employed in other divisions“, the enterprise announces. In total DB Schenker Logistics has more than 10.000 employees throughout the Americas, at more than 200 locations. The segment that is to be restructured accounts for less than ten per cent of their business in America.

With over USD 3 billion in revenue, DB Schenker counts among the major providers of transport and logistics services in the Americas. Heiner Murmann, CEO von Schenker, Inc.: “We will continue to expand our business throughout all of the Americas including the United States. In doing so we rely on our position in the U.S. market, in the international air and ocean freight industry and on our leading role in contract logistics business.“ They were acting to promote further growth, as the manager clearly excludes withdrawing from the US-market.
