Paul Günther AG and Trailer4You GmbH file for insolvency

Downturn in container throughput brings Paul Günther AG to its knees

Paul Günther AG (Hamburg), a leading European lessor of container chassis, filed for insolvency on 19 July. Insolvency proceedings shall put the company group back on its feet by means of an insolvency plan and with the support of the provisional insolvency practitioner. At the same time the subsidiary Trailer4You GmbH filed for insolvency as well.

The main reason fort his step is the dramatic crisis within the logistics industry and the slump in container throughput in particular. The existing financing model was not able to absorb the resulting short utilisation of the fleet.

The operative leasing business of the group is almost exclusively operated by the numerous subsidiaries acting at home and abroad. These are not affected by the insolvency, thus business can be continued there as before.

Paul Günther AG is currently elaborating a holistic concept in cooperation with a consulting company. This shall secure the sound core of the leasing business and keep open opportunities for expansion. Negotiations to implement this concept within an insolvency plan also involve financers of the company group.

Paul Günther offers fleet management solutions and sells container chassis, trailers and special equipment to transport and logistics enterprises. The company aims to offer the most possible flexibility to customers regarding planning, operative and financial issues. Established in 1891 the enterprise had a pioneer role in container chassis leasing business since 1972. Today the group operates with more than 5,000 trailers at 15 German and 28 more European locations in 14 countries with depots (last update: December 2008).
