Port of Duisburg records considerable growth in all cargo segments

Continuous growth in container throughput and positive development in the steel segment at the Port of Duisburg:

Port of Duisburg is steering on a growth course. In the period from January to June 2011 container throughput by vessel, railway and truck amounted to 1.2 million TEU or 10 per cent above last year’s figure. "If the development in container handling continues into the second half of 2011, we are optimistic that the record of 2.25 million TEU in total from last year can be increased again," Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG, said to journalists.

Other goods segments were also able to rise significantly in this period. The steel segment in particular showed a positive development. Ship and rail handling in the duisport group’s ports achieved 20 per cent growth to 15.9 million tonnes in the first half of the year. "Even if a slowdown in growth is expected in the second half of 2011 due to structural effects, we will be able to post double-digit growth at the end of the year. This is synonymous with a new best mark, including in total handling," Staake explained.

Duisburger Hafen AG is the holding and management corporation of the Port of Duisburg, the largest inland port in the world. The duisport Group offers full service packages for the port and logistics location in infra- and suprastructure including relocation management. Its subsidiaries also provide logistics services, such as building up and optimizing transport and logistics chains, rail freight transport services, facility management and packing logistics.
