DB Schenker new logistics capacity for BMW in Leipzig by 82,000 m²

As of summer 2013, around 1,500 employees will supply components to BMW car assembly plants in China and South Africa.

More than 100 containers are expected to be packed daily. DB Schenker now provides logistics on a total of 145,000 m² to the BMW plant in Leipzig for overseas production in China and South Africa.

For its customer DB Schenker the property developer Goodman has completed the expansion of the logistics park at Handelsring in Leipzig. After completion of the first unit in 2011 with 63,000 m², also the second phase with additional 82,000 m² is in use for automotive logistics as planned. Therefore DB Schenker now operates a total area of 145,000 m² at this site.

„On a former airfield we have established a modern logistics park, which is tailored to the requirements of DB Schenker. Both building units are visible signs of the success of the logistics and automotive industry in the city of Leipzig,“ says Jordan Corynen, director of Goodman Germany.

The structural characteristics of the automotive logistics include large exterior storage areas and lateral loading and unloading tunnels. The contemporary image of the property will be confirmed through a certification of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Both phases of construction of the 145,000 m² development are covered in the portfolio of Goodman European Logistics Fund (GELF). Goodman assumes facility and building management of the logistics park.

DB Schenker operates at the Handelsring in Leipzig as a logistics service provider for BMW. Around 8,000 different car parts are provided at the site for overseas production in China and South Africa.
