DB Schenker starts rail logistics innovation to Turkey

DB Schenker Rail’s Bosporus Shuttle to combine intermodal shipments and conventional wagon loads to one train starting in September

The globally operating transport and logistics provider DB Schenker Rail will be offering a new rail service to Southeast Europe. Known as the Bosporus Shuttle the company start operating three weekly pairs of trains between Cologne, Sopron and Turkey by the end of September, announced Kurt Leidinger, CEO Schenker & CO AG Austria and Southeast Europe, at the start of this week in Istanbul.

This new rail concept is unique, as it combined intermodal shipments and conventional wagon loads on the same train. As “multi-client-product“ with scheduled capacities for intermodal and conventional transport on the rail, based on an extensive corridor management, the Bosporus Shuttle covers the 2,300 kilometres distance between Sopron to Istanbul Halkali in four to five days. DB Schenker Rail Bulgaria will transfer the trains directly to the Turkish State Railways. The rest of the route – except for Austria (Rail Cargo Austria) – is operated with traction services of Deutsche Bahn. This number will later be increased to five pairs of trains. The new service is aimed to strengthen the rail offer between Western Europe and destinations in Turkey.
