Deutsche Bahn group heading for new dimensions in turnover

DB Schenker Logistics registered strong growth in the segments land transport, sea freight and contract logistics in 2011
 
The DB group (Deutsche Bahn AG) has ambitious growth targets. At the balance press conference CEO Dr. Rüdiger Grube presented the new “DB2020“-strategy, which is aimed to raise turnover to EUR 70 million within eight years. “We want to become a profitable market leader; we want to count among Germany’s top ten employers; and we want to become a pioneer in terms of environmental protection“, Grube outlines the core issues of the program.
 
For the 2011 financial period Deutsche Bahn AG posted turnover at EUR 37.9 billion and adjusted results from operations (adjusted EBIT) amounting to EUR 2.3 billion, which is 23.7 per cent more than the same year-ago figure. Net capital expenditures in 2011 were increased by 24 per cent to EUR 2.57 billion.
 
Volumes in rail freight transport increased by 5.8 per cent to 112 billion ton kilometers. Train capacity utilization rate grew by 2.2 per cent. The DB Schenker Logistics business unit increased the number of shipments in the European land transport sector by 18.6 per cent over last year to 95.83 million shipments. Ocean freight volume climbed by 7 per cent to 1.76 million TEU, while air freight volumes fell by 6.2 per cent to 1.149 million tons. Revenues posted by contract logistics advanced by 13.5 per cent.
