DFDS Group consolidates its position in the Baltic States through acquisition

Shipping line DFDS Seaways takes over BSL-RoPax line from Paldiski to Kappelskär

The DFDS Group took another action to consolidate its market position in RoPax traffic with the Baltic States. At the middle of this week they signed and agreement with the BSL shipping company (AS Baltic Scandinavian Lines) about the takeover of the RoPax-route from Paldiski in Estonia to Kappelskär (Sweden) v. v..

For the Danish company this transaction, still subject to the approval by the competition authority in Estonia, ensures a strong connection between Greater Stockholm and the economic Baltic centres. Maximum freight capacity on this route is 1.24 million load metres. The agency will lie in the hands of a joint enterprise, of which DFDS is holding 67 per cent of the shares while BSL holds 33 per cent.

DFDS Seaways serves 25 routes with 50 vessels and counts among the leading providers of passenger and freight shipping in northern Europe. As for transport ex Germany the enterprise is active on the recently launched route from Kiel to Ust-Luga (Russia) and operates a liner service from Kiel to St.Petersburg.
