DHL boosts South China-Nordics LCL network; meets US cargo screening mandate

DHL has launched two direct LCL services from Shenzhen in China, to Aarhus in Denmark and Helsinki in Finland; and has met the TSA’s August 1st cargo screening mandate.

Operated by DHL Global Forwarding’s in-house carrier, Danmar Lines, the two new services will reduce transit time for shipments from Shenzhen to Aarhus and Helsinki by up to three days, i.e. to 28 and 29 days respectively, as cargo is shipped directly instead of being routed via Hong Kong.

In November 2009, DHL launched a direct LCL service from Shenzhen to Gothenburg, Sweden. With these new services, customers in South China, especially SMEs located in cities such as Dongguan, Foshan, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, will benefit from the expanded service portfolio and access to these markets in a more secure and efficient manner.

According to the latest statistics from the Shenzhen Customs, the total value of foreign trade in Shenzhen rose 26.5% year-on-year to US$117.18 billion in the first five months of this year, with exports up 19.5% to US$67.57 billion. From January to May, container traffic in the port of Shenzhen reached 8.548 million TEU, up 28.1% year-on-year.

In other news, DHL has announced that it has met the TSA’s August 1st mandate to screen 100% of cargo transported on passenger aircraft originating in the US.

In fact, DHL has been screening 100% of the cargo it places on outbound passenger flights since May 2010.

DHL’s Global Mail division is also screening all of its expedited domestic and international mail and parcel shipments, which are all transported by air.
