DHL opens new office in Cambodia
DHL has opened the new premises for its Global Forwarding arm in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which will serve as a DHL Fashion & Apparel Centre of Excellence to support the established textile and garments industry in Cambodia, and will also boost DHL’s services to customers in the oil & energy sector. According to Amadou Diallo, CEO for Africa and South Asia Pacific at DHL Global Forwarding, the company is optimistic about Cambodia’s growth potential; GDP growth stands at 5.5% cent in 2010, higher than World Bank’s forecast of 4.9%. "We believe that 2011 will be an even better year for Cambodia now that economic recovery is well underway," said Diallo. World energy demand by 2030 is expected to grow 74% from 2005 levels, and the energy sector is expected to attract an average of €600 billion a year in investments to reach €15 trillion in cumulated investments by 2030. The global oil & energy industry – spanning both fossil and renewable energies – currently spends about €260 billion. As DHL’s seventh Fashion & Apparel Centre for Excellence in Asia Pacific, following the establishment of similar facilities in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, the new office will implement best practices and customise solutions to help customers in fashion and apparel to better manage the product flow further upstream in their supply chain. Huykieu Khau, managing director of DHL Logistics (Cambodia), pointed out that the fashion and apparel industry remains one of DHL’s core focus areas, and for Cambodia, garments and textiles contributed nearly US$2.82 billion during the first eleven months of 2010, which is a 20.15% increase over the prior year period. Furthermore, the EU’s tax exemptions for Cambodia mean that export growth is likely to continue. In addition to the standard portfolio of services, DHL Logistics (Cambodia) will also provide:
