DHL’s three new direct LCL services connect Hong Kong to Costa Rica, Malaysia and Romania

DHL has launched three new direct Less than Container Load (LCL) services connecting San Jose in Costa Rica, Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia and Constanta in Romania from Hong Kong, China.

The weekly scheduled direct service shipments from Hong Kong to San Jose in Costa Rica now connects 24 terminals in North Asia Pacific and 25 in South Asia Pacific to the port in Central America, enabling Asian exporters to reach destinations in Costa Rica in reduced time. With transit time between the two ports reduced to 36 days, the shorter distances and reduced facility handling make the new direct LCL shipments to Costa Rica more than 15% CO2 efficient than standard shipments.

The new weekly service between Hong Kong and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia offers a transit time of just five days between the two ports and enables CO2-savings of up to 21%. The service will connect China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea in North Asia Pacific along with Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and India in South Asia Pacific to Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, allowing Asian exporters to reach destinations in Malaysia in shorter times than previously available and to capture a higher proportion of Malaysian market share.

An additional new direct LCL route has been introduced between Hong Kong and Constanta in Romania, the largest port on the Black Sea. As Romania is located at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe, the new route will open up these important markets to four major trading ports in North Asia Pacific and 13 in South Asia Pacific with a reduced transit time of 28 days.

Kelvin Leung, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding said, "Increased trade with China from Malaysia, Central America and Europe has led to further demand for faster and more efficient services to the port of Hong Kong to serve these markets. Hong Kong’s long established role as a key trade platform has been strengthened by DHL’s three new LCL routes."
