Diego Aponte appointed as new President and CEO of MSC

MSC-founder Gianluigi Aponte hands over his business to his son Diego; Mr. Aponte will assume a new role as Group Executive Chairman

The Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC) has appointed Mr. Diego Aponte as its new President and CEO. Since joining MSC in 1997, Diego has worked in various functions across the business including Line Management. In recent years, he has been serving as Vice President. As Chairman of TIL, Terminal Investment Limited, he has also overseen the growth and strategic direction of MSC’s Port Division.

Mr. Gianluigi Aponte, founder of MSC said: “The Board and I firmly believe that Diego, supported by his senior management, will deliver continued success for MSC and its customers. We already have a number of projects underway which will help improve our overall service offering to clients, whilst improving our efficiencies.”

MSC also announced that Mr. Gianluigi Aponte, previously President of MSC, would assume a new role as Group Executive Chairman. Mr. Aponte will continue to oversee all group related activities as well as supporting Diego in shaping the future of MSC.

MSC headquartered in Geneva, acts as an independent and private company providing a service network via dedicated own offices throughout the world. As of end-September 2014, MSC was operating 465 container vessels with an intake capacity of 2,385,000 TEU.
