DP World increases capacity at Jebel Ali Container Terminal

Extension of the quay facility at Container Terminal 2 adds a further 1 million TEU annual capacity to Jebel Ali Port (United Arab Emirates)

A new expansion program has started at the Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. By the end of 2012 the quay at Container Terminal 2 will be extended to 3,000 metres. This will increase the port’s capacity by 1 million TEU to 15 million TEU per year. “After completion of the project Jebel Ali will be able to handle up to six 15,000 TEU-vessels simultaneously“, Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, announced at a press conference.

In the first six months of 2011 a total of 6.1 million TEU have been handled at the terminals of DP World in UAE. The Jebel Ali Container Terminal 2, equipped with 29 Super Post Panamax gantry cranes, is capable of handling container vessels with a draught of 17 metres.
