Drivers recruiting: ELVIS AG opens a designated office in Romania

New office of ELVIS AG in Timisoara gives qualified Romanian truck drivers the opportunity for long-term integration into the German labour market

To ensure well-trained staff on the long term, ELVIS AG, a European load association of international forwarders, is now treading new paths in the recruiting of truck drivers. In Timişoara, Romania, the enterprise has just opened an office. From there, potential drivers are sought, trained and brought to ELVIS members. The aim is to integrate both the drivers and their families in Germany on the long term. All newly recruited employees receive a German employment contract and payment on domestic wage level.

Jochen Eschborn, CEO of ELVIS AG, explains the background of the project in Timişoara: „The increasing shortage of drivers means great challenges to many companies. With the opening of an office in Romania, we have taken the issue into our own hands and provide a long-term solution. “

Due to lack of personnel need for action increases in the transport industry. According to Jochen Eschborn insufficiently qualified personnel is employed too often. In his eyes this is a vicious circle because the results are frequent damages to vehicles or equipment. „In Germany there are far too few drivers, so that we have deliberately opted for a different approach“, says the manager of ELVIS AG.

The staff of the ELVIS office in Timişoara is looking specifically for suitable truck drivers in Romania. Special selection with theoretical, practical and medical tests and training ensure that all drivers are qualified for the German market. Afterwards the staff is brought to interested ELVIS members in Germany. The company relies on a long-term relation with the drivers: „A short-term activity of a few months is not in our interest. We want to encourage the drivers to shift their center of life to Germany, in order to gain good long-term employees,“ says Jochen Eschborn.

In addition to language courses, the new staff is supported in administrative procedures, finding accommodation and opening a bank account. Also a special „Care Package“ including food and beverages is available for the driver in the first few days. In particular, the move from Romania to Germany is financially attractive: „All drivers get a German employment and are paid according to domestic wages plus expenses. In addition, they get 26 days holiday per year,“ says Jochen Eschborn. This is a significant improvement over an average salary of EUR 500 in Romania.
