DSV to develop 7.5m sq ft European logistics centre

DSV plans to invest DKK 2 billion (£243 million) on a 7.5 million sq ft logistics centre in Denmark. as it consolidates activities from its Air & Sea, Road and Solutions divisions.

DSV said it intended to consolidate its warehouse and cross-docking terminals in the Horsens area in Jutland, Denmark, to ensure increased efficiency and productivity combined with a greener profile and less CO2 emissions.

Simon H. Galsgaard, managing director for DSV Road in Denmark, said: “As part of our growth strategy, we want to consolidate all our activities within Air & Sea, Road, and Solutions in one location to ensure that our operations are efficient and that we provide the best possible solutions to our customers.

“Furthermore, Horsens is a strategic hub for transports between the Nordics and all other European countries.”

The new facility will be built next to DSV’s existing facilities, with warehousing space measuring at 2.9 million sq ft, office space of 193,750 sq ft, and a cross-docking terminal which will occupy 538,195 sq ft of space.

Galsgaard adds: “Among other things, the new logistics centre in Horsens will be characterised by a large degree of automated processes which ensure quick and efficient handling of large volumes.”

Peter Sørensen, mayor of Horsens, said: “Building a facility of this size will mean a lot of additional jobs available during the construction phase, something which local craftsmen and hauliers will benefit from. According to DSV’s estimates it may amount to 250 jobs.”
