Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs opens international congress on the ‘Permanent Oil Crisis’
A comprehensive congress on the challenges and opportunities of our future energy situation at a point in time when the financial crisis calls on us to reflect on how to proceed This congress is the first of its kind in which the impact of changing oil supply and fluctuating oil prices on many economic sectors is addressed in such an integral way. It is expected that this will lead to a fruitful interaction between speakers and congress delegates. This interaction must lead to a new way of thinking that will not allow current depletion of fossil resources result in collective negativity and paralysis, but in a sense of awareness that a common sustainable goal can be reached. This interchange of viewpoints is also expected to lead to innovative solutions and tangible actions that will somewhat decrease our dependency on oil and help prevent adverse effects on our economic growth.
