Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs opens international congress on the ‘Permanent Oil Crisis’

A comprehensive congress on the challenges and opportunities of our future energy situation at a point in time when the financial crisis calls on us to reflect on how to proceed

“The Permanent Oil Crisis: Challenges and Opportunities” is a comprehensive international congress that is focussing on the future challenges and opportunities of a changing security of oil supply rather than on its threats. The purpose of this congress is to explore, together with experts and industry leaders, how the energy situation, both from fossil and alternative sources is likely to develop in the short and long term. Secondly the congress aims to investigate how this will affect the many economic sectors that are dependent on the availability of cheap energy and fossil resources. What challenges will have to be coped with in the near future and to which innovations and business opportunities may the inevitably resulting societal and economic changes lead? These questions will be answered during this congress. The Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Mrs Maria van der Hoeven, will give the opening speech thereby underlining the significance this Ministry attaches to the outcome of a congress as such. The congress will take place in Amsterdam RAI (The Netherlands) on 21 and 22 January 2009. It is being organised by Europoint Conferences & Exhibitions from the Netherlands in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Hans Derksen as congress chairman.

This congress is the first of its kind in which the impact of changing oil supply and fluctuating oil prices on many economic sectors is addressed in such an integral way. It is expected that this will lead to a fruitful interaction between speakers and congress delegates. This interaction must lead to a new way of thinking that will not allow current depletion of fossil resources result in collective negativity and paralysis, but in a sense of awareness that a common sustainable goal can be reached. This interchange of viewpoints is also expected to lead to innovative solutions and tangible actions that will somewhat decrease our dependency on oil and help prevent adverse effects on our economic growth.

Europoint are also organisers of amongst others the following related events:
