DX opens first of 15 former Tuffnells sites

Delivery company DX has opened a new depot in Newport, Wales. The site was formerly operated by Tuffnells, which went into administration in June 2023.

Later that month, DX signed an agreement with Interpath Advisory, the administrators appointed by Tuffnells, to take over operation of 15 former Tuffnells depots across the UK.

The 15,800ft² Newport facility is the first of these depots to reopen under DX’s name. It sits on a 2.7-acre site in Rogerstone, just outside Newport city centre, and features a purpose-built cross dock and parking space for 20 trailers.

Paul Ibbetson, DX’s Chief Executive, said: “We are very pleased to have integrated the first of the 15 former Tuffnells depots into our network.

“The job of bringing the other Tuffnells sites onboard is well underway and will support our overall growth plans and drive gains on multiple fronts, including customer service levels, environmental benefits, and delivering enhanced margins.

“We look forward to announcing further depot openings over the coming months.”

It is hoped that the new sites will support DX’s growth, with the company’s revenue reaching £231.3 million in the first half of 2023 – a 15% (£29.3m) increase on revenue at the same point last year. Meanwhile, its operating profit has risen by 63% from £7.1m to £11.6m.

As well as opening new depots, DX’s plans going forward include investment in electric vehicles (EVs) and technology within the company.
