Eddie Stobart acquires 50 new box trailers

Logistics company Eddie Stobart has acquired a new fleet of 50 specialist box trailers to help with its growing online fulfilment business.

The new vehicles are from trailer manufacturer SDC and will be delivering ‘time-critical express trunking between some of the UK’s biggest sorting centres and ‘final mile’ depots.

The trailers include load securing systems which enable the integration of the trailers into the company’s wider network for ‘optimum vehicle utilisation.

“This is a significant investment and demonstrates our commitment to this fast-growing sector,” said Neil Rowbotham, online fulfilment sector director, Eddie Stobart. “The new trailers, in addition to our high-specification curtainsiders, will bring greater efficiencies and flexibility to our business by facilitating the fast and secure movement of loose parcels typical of online fulfilment, but with the capacity to accommodate conventional wheeled cages as well.

“This gives us maximum flexibility to meet the needs of the disparate online market – protecting our competitive one way pricing structure without compromising our broader network.”
