Einride launches electric fleet with brewer in Benelux

Freight mobility technology company Einride, which develops digital, electric, and autonomous shipping solutions, has launched an electric fleet of vehicles with Belgian brewing company AB InBev in the political union of Benelux.

In a new partnership that will begin to take shape in early 2023, the brewer will deploy a new fleet of Einride electric trucks on the roads of Belgium. To begin with, AB InBev will make use of Einride’s freight mobility platform and six connected trucks, alongside the installation of the infrastructure needed to charge the vehicles.

The trucks are to be deployed in Brussels and Leuven as part of the brewer’s plan to have net zero emissions across its entire supply chain by 2040. Einride expects that its trucks will save AB InBev 500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually with its fully electric fleet.

Philippe Seminck, AB InBev’s Logistics Director in Benelux and France, said: “We only invest in non-diesel transport and are going for zero in our emissions. As we are starting the broad deployment of electric vehicles for city deliveries next year, the partnership with Einride for electric heavy duty transportation on the middle mile is the next step in our green logistics strategy.”

Einride intends to continue its expansion across Benelux by adding more customers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg in the future. Founder and Chief Executive of Einride Robert Falck believes that “Benelux is the beating heart of Europe and the place to drive change across the European Union”.

He added: “In the last ten years, [the European Union]has cut greenhouse gas emissions in every sector but transport, which has only increased, with road freight transport remaining by far the biggest emitter. It’s high time to take action in order to achieve the target of halving emissions by 2030.”
