EPAL and UIC agree to continue the pallet pool

UIC and EPAL follow suit to the request of pallet users for unlimited exchangeability in the joint pallet pool

The European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) and the International Union of Railways UIC have basically agreed on mutual recognition of their pallets. Both organisations will elaborate a relevant agreement on the short term, allowing unlimited exchange of the pallets among users in the joint pallet pool. This result has been reached in a summit talk in Paris, in which Robert Holliger, president, and Martin Leibrandt, CEO, participated on part of EPAL, and Thomas Metlich (chairman of the task group for questions on palletising) and Jozef Fazik (Senior Advisor) on part of UIC.

“The market demands and needs unlimited exchangeability within the joint pallet pool“, says Thomas Metlich. UIC and EPAL will continue to follow suit to this request of the pallet users. Details of the mutual pallet regognition and a possible enhanced cooperation of both companies will be negotiated. Both organisations put the focus on securing permanent high quality of charge carriers in the biggest joint pallet pool and providing users with an area-covering network of production and repair stations.

Through this unification EPAL and UIC are taking an important step that provides a practical and user-friendly solution to users from trade and industry, freight forwarders and warehouse managers, manufacturers and repairers. The pending agreement should contain clear and easily understandable criteria and thus ensure the exchangeability of the pallets for users.

Robert Holliger, president of EPAL, is welcoming the planned agreement: “This will provide clarity to all parties concerned. The future agreement underlines the strong position of the joint pallet exchange system.“
