BLG Automotive supports Dräxlmaier with supply of Mercedes plant

Automotive division of the BLG Logistics Group to supply Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen with Dräxlmaier cable harnesses for the new C-Class

At BLG Logistics the go-ahead was given for a completely new series production operation. As of now, the automotive division will supply the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen with Dräxlmaier cable harnesses for the new C-Class. The contract with the Dräxlmaier group was signed on a long-term basis. The maximum capacity per day shall be reached in two years.

Mercedes put up a building with a storage capacity of 3,500 positions for the new model series at the industrial park in Hemelingen and made it available to BLG. The BLG project team set up an automatic small parts warehouse and launched operation there within five months. For Aberle, the company providing the automatic small parts warehouse, this represents a new yardstick in terms of speed and is thus a reference project.

In the small parts warehouse car sets are stored, weighing up to 65 kilograms and consisting of three cable harness sets each – the frame floor unit, the engine compartment unit and the cockpit cable harness set. Every car set is different and is tailored to the specific customer order.

BLG Automotive carries out the main processes, such as receiving, repacking, storage, sequencing and outgoing items, in a 5,000 m² hall in Bremen-Hemelingen. The car sets are delivered to Mercedes in a just-in-sequence process. As soon as a set is called, BLG has 153 minutes to supply it to the production line. A call may come about once a minute.

Headquartered in Vilsbiburg in Bavaria, the Dräxlmaier group is a family enterprise with global operations. Since its establishment in 1958 the company has been developing and producing modern on-board power supply systems, exclusive interiors and central electrical and electronic components clearly geared to the premium automobile segment. With around 48,000 employees worldwide the Dräxlmaier group numbers among the biggest family enterprises in Germany. Internationally it ranks among the top 100 automotive suppliers.
