Etihad Cargo remains on climb flight mode

Etihad Cargo carried 25 per cent more air freight from January to June and sets the course for USD 1 billion turnover in 2014

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, recorded a double-digit increase of passenger figures and cargo volume in the first six months of 2014. This led to an increase in total turnover to USD 3.2 billion, and hence to the half-year with the strongest turnover in the history of the Arab airline headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

In the period from January to June 2014 Etihad Cargo carried 268,713 tonnes of air freight and air mail. This means a growth of 25 per cent year-on-year, accounting for a major share of the airline’s total turnover. Etihad Cargo sees itself still on its way to reach the benchmark of USD 1 billion in turnover in 2014.

„While the international aviation industry has to fight with high fuel prices, intensive competition and declining demand for freight volumes, our company has reached a record result and transported more passengers and freight to their destinations around the world with the biggest fleet so far. We are heading for ambitious targets. Five more destinations will be added to the worldwide route network in the second half of the year 2014,“ says James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways.

The increase in passenger figures and freight volume was in line with the expansion of the international flights of the airline. By the end of the first half of the year 2014 they covered 98 destinations. Before the end of this month they will launch flights to Jerewan (Armenia) and in the course of the year also to Rome, Perth, Phuket and Dallas.
