EUR 100 million added value are on the edge in the customs forwarding business

Subdued mood in the Austrian transport industry – the limit of the companies has been reached!“

“Tolls, night-time speed-limit of 60 km/h, liability of freight forwarders in customs procedures, high registration costs, uncertainties and burden from the Energy Efficiency Act – the list of charges for the domestic transport industry is growing, while the limits in the sector had already been reached”, Mag. Alexander Klacska, Chairman of the Federal Transport division in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, said at a press conference, urging for a fast realization of growth-promoting impulses.

As a particular problem Klacska mentioned the current rules in Austria for the liability of freight forwarders in customs procedures. “Here are some 2,000 jobs and EUR 100 million in added value at risk, because enterprises are withdrawing from Austria as a clearance location”, he added.

As the current business survey of the transport and communication division shows, demand expectation of companies is declining. Future prospects and employment situation are assessed negatively by them.
