Eurogate Group registered record year in 2008
For the first time in the company’s history Eurogate Group beat the mark of 14 million TEU in container handling. In 2008 the enterprise handled 14.2 million standard containers (TEU) in Europe – 2.3 per cent more than in the previous year. In Bremerhaven Eurogate increased troughput by 12.4 per cent to 5.5 million TEU. However in Hamburg the volume declined 7.7 per cent to 2.7 million TEU. In Germany Eurogate registered a total of 8.2 million TEU, which equals a 4.9%-increase. These figures were announced by the Management last week. The Italian holding Contship Italia registered a slight decline in volumes due to the particular trend in Cagliari (Sardinia) and achieved a total of 5.7 million TEU (minus 2.1 per cent). For the first time containers were also dispatched in Tanger (Morocco). The Eurogate Tanger-terminal, which started operating step-by-step since October 2008, handled 64,000 TEU until the end of the year. Quelle: Österreichische Verkehrszeitung |
