Felbermayr develops new business segments

Container transport, barge freighting and maritime services form new segments of the service range offered by the Felbermayr group

The acquisitions of the German barging companies H&S Container Line, Haeger & Schmidt International and the major shareholding in RKE, a company pf the Belgian rail freight group SNCB Logistics, which had been fixed during the Holy Week with retroactive effect from 1 January 2013, allows the Felbermayr group to enter new business segments. Thus the Austrian family enterprise will be able to offer container transport including pre- and on-carriage as well as barge freighting, short sea shipping and to act as seaports shipping agent.

To the business segment Transport and Lifting Technology this acquisition means a considerable extension of the portfolio by adding river shipping and maritime services, the company headquartered in Wels explains in a press release. Felbermayr has previously been acting as heavy transport logistician and port operator in Krefeld am Rhine and Linz/Danube.

Felbermayr takes over the staff of 180 from the previous barging companies of SNCB Logistics as well as all locations of the companies in Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Poland. This will guarantee continuation of current business relations. The reason for the sale was the intention of SNCB Logistics to concentrate on their core business, which is rail cargo transport.

Felbermayr Holding GmbH headquartered in Wels, Upper Austria, operates 62 locations in 15 European countries. Their 2,500 employees generated net turnover of EUR 399 million in 2012. The service range covers special and heavy transport as well as working platform and mobile crane hire, complemented with structural and civil engineering activities.
