Slight uptrend with Panalpina Group

Panalpina’s results behind expectations

The globally acting transport and logistics group Panalpina registers a slight uptrend. In the third quarter of 2009 the transport volume handled in the air and sea freight segment has clearly increased compared on the second quarter. However, compared on a 9-months-basis the development of the transport volume and the gross profit was substantially below the expected results, as the Management announced in an interim report.

According to the release Panalpina Group was able to increase the air freight transport volume by 10 per cent between the second and the third quarter 2009. However, compared to the first nine months of last year, a minus of 25 per cent was registered this year. As for sea freight the increase between the second and the third quarter amounts to around 13 per cent. The nine-months-comparison shows a decline of 18 per cent in this segment.

Gross profit of the first nine months declined by almost 19 per cent on last year, and fell about 4 per cent compared to the second quarter. The development of the costs lies within the range of aims targeted with a cost-cutting program.
